Berlene Tate Greene Porter

Mrs. Berlene Tate Greene Porter, 82, passed away at her home in Rural Hall after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 7, 1932 in Cana, VA to the late Earl and Elsie Tate. Berlene attended Calvary Baptist Church in King. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1989 after 29 years of service and enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting and most of all cooking for her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; John Charles ""Johnny"" Greene, Sr., a son; John Charles Greene, Jr., her twin sister; Imogene Tate, her sisters; Frances Lineback, Mary ""Mag"" Strickland and Helen Miller and her brothers; Carlie Ray Tate and Early Junior Tate. She is survived by her children; Susan Zammit (Bob) of Winston-Salem, Kimberly Hill of King, Jay Greene (Julia) of Pfafftown and Ron Greene (Joanna Smith) of Pinnacle, her grandchildren; Vance Greene of Advance, Tyler Hill of King, Jennifer Greene of Pfafftown, Katlin Anderson of Pfafftown, Hope H. Wilkes (T.J.) of Walkertown and Jason Huffman of Pfafftown, her sisters-in-laws; Peggy Tate of Mt. Airy, Mary Saunders of Rural Hall, Dean Carpenter of Charlotte, Judy Elder of Taylorsville and Linda Stafford of Winston-Salem and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special cousin; Bruce Thomas and a special friend; Betty Sumner. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church in King with Pastor Kevin Broyhill and Rev. Eddie Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church in King. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Calvary Baptist Church, 536 South Main St., King, NC 27021 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
