Mr. Bennett Black passed away at home Friday, March 18, 2011. He was born in Anson County, NC on September 20, 1920 to the late Jacob and Ollie Dull Black. Bennett served in World War II with the Army Air Force as an instrument landing instructor. He was a long time member of Lewisville Baptist Church. Bennett was a well accomplished basket maker and loved gardening, where he enjoyed providing food for the neighborhood. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Wayne Black, three brothers, and four sisters. Bennett is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elsie Black; a son Stephen Black and wife Kelly of Arlington, VA; daughters Donna Ireland and husband Jacky of Advance, and Tricia Etchison and husband Brent of Clemmons; grandchildren Bennett Black, Julia Black, Amanda Ireland, John Ireland and wife Susan, Whitney Etchison, Courtney Etchison, and Nathaniel Etchison; great-grand children Landon Ireland and Riley Ireland; sister Polly McGuirt of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday March 22, 2011 at Lewisville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lewisville Baptist Church PO Box 327, Lewisville, NC 27023, Hospice and Palliative Care 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a Charity of Donor's Choice.
