Mr. Benjamin Durward Weakley, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 5, 1922 in Clarksville, TN to Luther and Hattie Williams Weakley. Mr. Weakley was a WWII veteran serving in the European Theater. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 40 years of service and then retired from the Army Corps of Engineers with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Mason Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his seven siblings. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Killebrew and husband David of Jeffersonville, IN, and Glenna Weidner of Lexington; one son, Gary Weakley and wife Debbie of Temecula, CA; four grandchildren, Jeremy Killebrew of Indiana, Justin Killebrew of Ohio, Zachary Weidner of Alaska, and Melanie McCutheon of California; three great grandchildren, Elijah Killebrew and Isaac Killebrew, both of Indiana, and Ian McCutheon of California; one sister, Charlotte Hays of Owensboro, KY. The family will hold a private graveside service in Guthrie, KY. The family would like to express their thanks to Silas Creek Manor and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their support and care.
