Mr. Benjamin Harrison ""Ben"" Fishel, Jr., 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born July 21, 1926 in Forsyth County to Benjamin H. Fishel and Blanche Easter Fishel. He graduated from Griffith High School and attended Draughn Business College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Fishel was a former member of the Winston-Salem Jaycees, the Exchange Club of Winston-Salem, Konnoak Hills Lions Club and the Forsyth Board of Adjustment. He also was a member of the Gideons and retired from Carswell Distributing Company. He loved Gospel music and was the last surviving member of the Spiritualairs Quartet who sang on WSJS TV on Sunday mornings years ago. Ben was a member of Advent Moravian Church and sang in the choir for seventy years. He was awarded the Jim Salzwedel Award for excellence in music. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Margie Brewer Fishel; two sons, Bruce Fishel and wife Kerry and Gary Fishel and wife Beverly; four grandchildren, Courtney Moore (David), Leigh Fishel, Susan Sewell (Alex) and Joseph Fishel. Also surviving are one brother, Charles Fishel (Janet) and a nephew, Charles Fishel, Jr. (Cholly). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Advent Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Tim Sapp and Rev. Roger Kimball officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice for their loving care, the nursing staff and especially Laney.
