Ben Austin McIntyre, 91, of Lawndale formerly of Kernersville passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. Mr. McIntyre was born on February 11, 1923 in Cleveland County to Phylector and Maggie Heafner McIntyre. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific and Iwo Jima Mr. McIntyre was a member of Oak View Baptist Church in High Point and retired from Roadway Express with 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Triva Inman McIntyre; one step-son, Jimmy Joyce and six brothers. Mr. McIntyre is survived by a step-son, Billy Joyce of Richmond, VA; two step grandchildren, Brad and Shaun Joyce; and a sister, Kay Powell and husband David of Polkville,NC., one brother in-law; Rudy Hilton of Winston-Salem, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
