Ben King Harned

Dr. Ben King Harned, Jr., 85, of Bermuda Run passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born April 3, 1926 in Memphis, TN to Ben and Faye Smith Harned. Dr. Harned was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and was a veteran in the US Navy during WWII as a Corpsman. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a General Surgeon. Dr. Harned graduated from Cornell Medical School in New York and worked as a General Surgeon for 35 years at the Welborn Clinic in Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Gigi. Surviving is his wife, Sharon Harned of the home; his sons, Fred Harned and wife Amy of CA and Dr. Bob Harned of Knoxville, TN; his daughter, Debbie Blackshear and husband Dr. Joe Blackshear of Jacksonville, TN; six grandchildren, Greg, Zackery and Serina Harned and Sam, Ben and Leslie Blackshear; three step children, Dr. Michael Troyer and wife Ann of Cincinnati, OH, Cassie Troyer of Greenville, SC and Douglas Troyer and wife Suzanne of Hingham, MA and six step grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Dr. Ronald Rinn officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
