Barto Ray Sweitzer

KERNERSVILLE-Mr. Barto Ray Sweitzer, 81, passed away quietly on December 31, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Barto was born on August 9, 1934 in Glen Rock, PA to the late Barto and Lenore Baublitz Sweitzer. He was a graduate of Susquechannock High School. Barto was a veteran of the US Army and played trumpet in the US Army Band. He was a Quality Engineer with AMP, Inc., retiring after 45 years of service. Barto shared his musical talent as director of the Glen Rock Carolers, the Glen Rock Band, the Brodbecks Band and Shrewsbury Band. He also played trumpet for the Hanover Lyric Band. Barto had a kindred spirit that he shared with all who knew him. He was a true nurturer to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Sweitzer; 3 daughters, Teresa Filipelli (Michael), Stacie Rogers, and Suzie Sweitzer; 3 sons, Jeremy Rogers, Michael Deppen and Jeffrey Sweitzer; 4 grandchildren, Heide Ettinger (Danny), Brittany McSparran (Adam), Megan Deppen and Juliene Deppen; 4 great grandchildren, Chase and Reagan Ettinger, and Kennedy and Leighton McSparran; 1 sister, Marilyn Sides (Rodney); and 2 nephews, Scott and Rick Sides.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at Kuhner Associates Funeral Home in York, PA. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at the funeral home and from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.
