Barry Nelson

Mr. Barry Leonard Nelson, 72, of Rural Hall, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Barry was born in Forsyth County on July 22, 1949, to the late B.J. and Evelyn Nelson.  Barry was a graduate of South Stokes High School in 1967 and a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a mechanic at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring after more than 35 years of service.  Barry loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting and enjoyed detailing cars.  He loved NASCAR and the Carolina Panthers.  In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Ann Nelson and one sister, Bonnie Kiser.  He is survived by his step-daughter, Sherry Coleman; two grandsons, Dustin James Hurley and Thomas Lee McCreary; and great-grandchildren, Riley James Hurley and Olivia Layne Hurley.  Barry is also survived by his three brothers, Ken Nelson, Dale Nelson, and Tim Nelson; and two sisters, Kay Nelson Wall and Pam Nelson Doomy.  A service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Freedom Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  “Fly high with nannie Doris until I can see you again.  Forever and Always in my heart and memories.  Love, your grandson, Dustin.”  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.  Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Nelson.
