Barry Kevin McGee entered into the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savor on September 2, 2023, at the age of 69. He was born on Feb. 21, 1954, to Raymond C. McGee and Rachel Hazeline Snow McGee.
He grew up in the Union Cross community with his older brother, Steve. Barry always lived within 10 miles of his family’s home except when he went to NC State. Barry received his Bachelor of Science in 1977 from NC State in Statistics. (Barry loved sports. The joke was that he went into statistics thinking it was sports statistics not the study of probability.)
After graduating from College, Barry went to work for Amp Inc/ Tyco. He worked there for 23 years. Retiring in 2000 as Quality Director of North America, Automotive Division.
Barry always loved his church family at Union Cross Moravian Church. He was a lifetime member there. When he was young, his family would walk to church to attend. He sang in the choir and in a group called “The Saints and Sinners” that performed at several nursing homes and churches in the area. He taught Sunday School for the High School class and served on the church boards. If there was an event at church, he wanted to be there.
Barry also loved to have a good time and he could find a good time anywhere he went and whatever he did. He had a great sense of humor all the way to the end of life. Barry loved children. He would strike up a conversation with any child.
Barry is predeceased in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife of 42 years (Dee McGee), his daughter (Chani Noel), his grand-daughter (Tatyana Noel), several nieces and nephews and Barry’s special companion, Chips.
A celebration of life service will be held on October 8th at 3pm at Union Cross Moravian Church. The family will receive visitors from 1:30pm to 2:30pm prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
