Barrett ""Dickie"" Maxwell quietly and peacefully went home with Jesus on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 at 1:15pm. Dick was surrounded by his loving family and close friends as he made his journey home. Dick was born in Crumpler, WV to Barrett and Nellie Maxwell on May 21, 1937. He served proudly in the US Army from 1959 to 1962 spending most of his armed services time in Korea. He retired from Litton Industries in 1984 to start Maxwell Jewelers, where he gained many loyal customers and friends. In 2006, he and his wife Ginger retired from Maxwell's and started a new venture, Life Source Medical, a durable medical equipment company with offices both in Greensboro, NC and Princeton, WV. Dick was an avid golfer and loved to spend time with family and friends hunting and fishing. He had many close bonds with other outdoorsmen through varioius hunting clubs and associations. Dick will also be remembered by his love of Wake Forest Univerisity and was an avid fan of WFU athletics. He especially enjoyed football tailgating with friends and family. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family and friends at birthdays, holidays, and other special occations. Dick was always ready to share a smile or funny quip. His dry sense of humor and common sense wisdom earned him the nickname, ""The Wizard"" by those close to him. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 51 years, Ginger Puckett Maxwell. His mother, Nellie, of Winston-Salem; brother-n-laws Rick D Puckett (Robin) of Greensboro, and Roger R. Puckett (Sandi) of High Point; his aunt Mildred of Ocala, FL; plus numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that he loved very much. Of special note: ""Sadie"", his beloved cock-a-poo companion, who stayed by his side throughout his courageous battle with cancer, will surely miss Dick's presence and love toward her. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Barrett; his brother-in-law, Tom Puckett of Princeton, WV, mother-in-law and father-in-law Georgia and Owen Puckett. Dick was an active member of Christ Temple Church of Winston-Salem. A special thanks is expressed to the pastoral staff of Christ Temple Church, whom he loved and appreciated so much as they stood beside him throughout his year of illness.
