Barney Roberts, Jr.

Barney William Roberts, Jr., 76, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. Barney was born on November 7, 1941 in Forsyth County to Barney William Roberts, Sr. and Winifred Marie Breece Roberts. He grew up in Ardmore and graduated from RJ Reynolds High School. He worked as an electrician with Salem Electric and Bryant Electric. Later in life, he moved to Westfield, NC. He was the proud owner of a 1934 Chevy, nicknamed "Putt Putt" that he loved dearly. "Putt Putt" won numerous awards over the years and was featured in Hot Rod Magazine. Barney was a simple man who enjoyed gardening, NASCAR, riding his tractor, traveling, "Putt Putt", and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Brenda Hucks Roberts; and his second wife, Claudette Hemric Roberts. Surviving family includes his four children: Barney Williams Roberts III and wife Janice of Youngsville, Barbara R. Mitchell of Kernersville, Bonnie R. Harris of Kernersville, and Belinda R. Matthews of Westfield; five grandchildren, Lee Roberts, Megan Harris, Ryan Harris, Christopher Matthews, and Grace Mitchell; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Alice Austin of Greensboro; and brother, Jared Roberts of Melbourne, FL. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Terry Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-11:45 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Kate B.
