Barney Taylor Eaton, 91, passed away Saturday evening June 26, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 6, 1919 to Hardin and Mary Elizabeth King Eaton in Carroll County, VA, who preceded him in death. Barney was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor. He was a very hard worker and a welder by trade. His father passed away when he was a young boy. He helped his mother by going to work for the Bowman Gray Estate. Later he married his wife and moved to the Washington, D.C. area to live while he worked on the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. He later moved back to Winston-Salem and worked for Salem Steel for 38 years. After retiring from Salem Steel he worked at Food Lion part-time for several years. He was a caring and loving husband to Beulah Lakey Eaton for 69 years, in which she preceded him in death in November of 2005. Preceding him in death was his son, Ken Eaton, loving granddaughter, Donna Lynn Eaton, brother, Clarence Eaton and a sister, Mora Money. Surviving is a loving daughter, Phyllis Mackie and husband Roger of Winston-Salem; son, Don Eaton and wife Emily of Advance; grandson, Mark Eaton and wife Annette; great-grandson, Alex; grandson, Eric Eaton and wife Celeste; great-grandson, Grant of Columbus, NC; and a special young lady, Desiray Simmons whom he loved as his own; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, June 28 at the funeral home.
