Barbara Jean Summers (nee Logan) passed away peacefully February 10, 2021 with her family by her side. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday.
Barbara was born 1-12-1932 in Lakin, Kansas to Wilfred B. Logan and Ruth Logan (Frease). Barbara is survived by her high school sweetheart Roy M. Summers. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in December. Together, Roy and Barbara raised three daughters. They are Debra Desporte and Roxanne Weiss of Florida, and Gina Foster of New Jersey. Barbara was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Over the years, Barbara was blessed with six grandchildren Rebecca Logan, Troy Desporte, Rachelle May, Katie Bushey, Amy Riggs and Ashley Foster Patterson. She delighted in spending time with them and watching them grow and have children of their own. Barb and Roy rejoiced in having fourteen great grandchildren.
Barbara grew up in Lakin, Kansas with her surviving brother Dennis Logan. After marrying, Barbara and Roy travelled and raised their daughters living in California, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina.
The family cherished spending holidays and summer vacations visiting Grandparents and relatives in Lakin and Leoti, Kansas. These close family bonds continued over the years.
Barbara and Roy maintained a lifelong connection with treasured High School classmates. Throughout the years they enjoyed reuniting at Lakin High School reunions or just casual get-togethers.
Before retiring to North Carolina, Barbara and Roy had the opportunity to travel to Europe, enjoying time in Budapest, England, Germany, and countries in between. Barbara loved to travel and instilled a love of other cultures and people within her children.
Barbara was passionate about education, animals, nature, and charities for children. She supported many causes. She also loved music and sang and played the piano. Her children remember growing up with records always playing. They know all the words to Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdink songs. Barbara will be most remembered by her joyful spirit and infectious laughter. We will forever cherish our memories together.
