Barbara Pappas Meletis, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 4, 1931 in Forsyth County to Nicholas James and Sophia Drocopoulos Pappas. Mrs. Meletis was a lifetime member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was a founding member of the Daughters of Penelope, Winston-Salem Chapter, which benefits SCAN and Ronald McDonald House. She was a member of The Philoptochos Society, and a former nurse at City Hospital and later Forsyth Medical Center. She also helped with the family hotel business. Barbara graduated from Gray High School where she was a former beauty queen. In raising her children, they spent many happy summers at Sunset Beach, NC. She was also a lifetime fan of Wake Forest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Pappas; and a sister, Tina Spanos. Surviving is Peter Thomas Meletis, father of her children. Her children are Tom Meletis (Effie), Nick Meletis (Joanna), Ann Meletis Scott (Don) and Cheryl Meletis (Dean Ebert); eight grandchildren, Peter and Stephanie Meletis, Honeigh and Lucas Meletis, Rip and Nick Scott, Wilson Ebert (Corie) and Harrison Ebert; a sister, Mary Summers; a brother, Father Arthur Pappas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 2 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kanagelaris officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday with a Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
