Barbara McLain Israel

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Barbara McLain Israel, 78, of Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Forsyth Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Fraternity Church of the Brethren, 3760 Fraternity Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 with Pastor Paul Stutzman officiating. Mrs. Israel was born May 25, 1936, in Surgoinsville, Tennessee to the late Hicks and Margie McLain. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her Brother, Max McLain. Barbara was a talented cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family, especially her grandsons. She and Ray, her husband, took great pride in traveling with their grandsons to places like Alaska, Iceland, Nova Scotia and the coast. She showed great courage and energy by taking them on two separate cruise ships. She spent many hours reading, weaving and creating handmade Christmas decorations and other items for her family and friends. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, James Ray Israel, M.D., of the home; daughter, Dawn Israel McCall and her husband, William Vaughn McCall, M.D. of Augusta, Georgia; son, Mitchell Ray Israel and his wife, Alice Christian Israel of Franklin, Tennessee; grandsons, William Israel McCall of Durham, NC; Zachary Ray Israel of Morgan Hill, CA; James Vaughn McCall of Raleigh, NC and John McLain McCall of Augusta, GA; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Hundley Israel of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by a sister Patsy Davis and her husband Arnold and three brothers, Sam McLain and his wife Peggy, Joe McLain and his wife Donna, and Phillip McLain and his wife Carla.
