Barbara Ann Hawks Horne

Barbara Ann Hawks Horne, 67, passed away on Friday June 28, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a brief illness. She was a resident of Oak Forest Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for 7 years due to several strokes. She was born on September 22, 1945 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Wava and Charles ""Speedie"" Hawks. Barbara was a 1963 graduate of Virginia High School. She retired in 2005 as a teacher's assistant from the Davidson County School System where she had worked at Northwest Elementary for 27 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, John Everette Horne, daughter Dee Dee Edwards and her husband Teddy, son Mike Horne and his wife Ann. Four grandchildren, Amber and Kristen Edwards, and Ashley and Austin Horne. Sister Kathy Hawks White of Abingdon, VA. Brothers Charles Hawks of Bristol, Tenn. and Eddie Hawks of Bristol, Va. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Sunday June 30, 2013 from 7 pm to 9 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum 2730 Peters Creek Parkway 2:00 pm Monday with William ""Bill"" McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park following the service.
