Barbara Jean Landingham Easter

Mrs. Barbara Jean Landingham Easter, age 79, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, December 22, 2011, at home surrounded by family and hospice home care nurse. Bobbie, as she preferred to be called, was born in Forsyth County to Grover Cleveland and Nellie Mae Pike Landingham, on April 18, 1932. Bobbie had a bigger than life personality, loved people, and had a smile that could light up a room. She was born with an extraordinary talent for the piano, possessing the ability to play anything that she heard. She was also gifted with a beautiful singing voice and sang at her high school graduation. After graduation she was accepted to the Juilliard School of Music, located at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in the heart of New York City, which focused exclusively on artistic education, offering pre-professional training in music, dance, and drama. However, she never attended Juilliard, choosing rather to marry, a decision that would change the course of her life. Bobbie was employed at Sears Roebuck and Company in the cosmetic department and later went to work at Western Electric, a major Winston-Salem employer from which she retired. Her interests included family, music, art, and reading. After retiring she moved beside her second son and enjoyed living the country life, spending her mornings drinking coffee and watching her bluebirds. There she devoted much of her time to reading and treasured visiting with her grandchildren, and great grandchild, one of her life's greatest delights. She will be forever remembered as Grandma Bobbie and Gigi, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her children, Rick Easter, and wife Missy, of Winston-Salem, Steve Easter, and wife Cindy, of Kernersville, Bill and Melony Easter Lowery, of Lexington, nine grandchildren, Kimberly Easter Smith, Eric Easter, Sherri Easter Jones, Luke Easter, Hannah Easter, Megan Easter, Zachary Lowery, Drew and Kaitlin Eller; great grandchild, Evie Smith; three sisters, Geneva Mosteller and Evelyn Beeson, both of Winston-Salem and Blanche Redding of Kernersville; one brother, Harry Lee Landingham of SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Johnny Landingham, and G.C. Landingham Jr.; sister, Veatrice Landingham Elliott and niece, Pam Smith. There will be a memorial service held at 10:00 am December 26, 2011, at Crews United Methodist Church, 4150 Reidsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church after the service. Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 101 E. Valencia Medical Center, Fullerton, CA 92835, Brenner's Children Hospital, Medical Center Blvd. #7, Winston-Salem, NC 27157, or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem NC 27103.
