Barbara Cook

Mrs. Barbara Jean Burton Cook, age 80, went to be with the Lord February 5, 2018 at Village Care of King. Barbara was born May 20, 1937 in Forsyth County to the late John Cletus Burton and Asper Lillie Burton. Barbara was a charter member of Marshall Baptist Church. She loved working in the Awana's, looking after children seeking the Lord. After finishing college, she was one of the first two women who went through rookie school at the Winston-Salem Police Department. Barbara was a dedicated officer for the Winston-Salem Police Department with 34 years' service. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Brian Cook, and one daughter-in-law, Janice Cook. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Harold Cook; two sons, Mike Cook, Kent Cook (Myra); three grandchildren, Cadye Cook, Myranda Cook, and Joshua Cook; two brothers, one sister. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Marshall Baptist Church with Rev. John Holmes officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM at Hayworth-Miler Chapel Rural Hall.
