KERNERSVILLE- Ava Belle Myers Hampton, 92 passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2014. She was born March 29, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late Arville C. and Bessie Smith Myers in the Waughtown community. Ava graduated from Sedge Garden High School and attended Winston-Salem Business College. At age 19 she went to Washington, D. C. and worked for the federal government until her retirement in 1977. She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of Energy. While in Washington she married H. Allison Hampton, and they were married for 33 years, before his passing.
Ava enjoyed entertaining family and friends in Washington as well as at their vacation home on the Patuxent River in Maryland.
After retirement, Ava moved back to the Waughtown community where she lived until 2003 and then moved to Kernersville. She was a loyal and active member of Waughtown Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She served as assistant treasurer and was active in many church organizations.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, James W. Myers, Roy A. Myers, and Jack D. Myers as well as sisters, Nevelyn Petree, Norma Jordan, Dorcas Mason, Katherine Myers, and Imogene Stafford; and nephews, Mike Petree and Toby Mason.
Surviving are her brothers- in- law, Dewey V. Stafford and Jerry Berrier of Kernersville; sister- in-law, Nancy M. Myers of St. Petersburg, Fl.; nieces and nephews, Rick and Gwyn Grubbs, Wayne and Linda Mason, Keith Mason, Yvonne Zacheis, John Petree, Jack Myers, Jr., Tommy Myers, Sue Jordan, Robert Parnell, David Parnell, Sue Ostrom, Phyllis McCarley, Donna Zender, Lisa Sapperstein, Allison Dildine, and Debbie Berrier; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
A Funeral Service and Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Waughtown Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Eddie Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens of Winston Salem for the loving care of Ava the last three years of her life.
