On April 3, 2021, Audrey K. Austin, 94, heard the call from heaven’s portal saying, “come home my child this is the last mile you must run.” She fell asleep and awoke in God’s new heaven, sheltered in the arms of God. Mrs. Austin had put her faith and trust in Jesus Christ and called upon Him to forgive her of her sins and save her (Romans 10:13). Mrs. Austin was the daughter of Joseph Klobas and Mary Costigan Klobas. She was born on August 19, 1926 in Hemphill WV. Mrs. Austin, lovingly known by her children as Momma Lou, worked many years at Duplan and then at Hanes Hosiery in Winston Salem. She was a member of Life Impact Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed praising the Lord in song and having a good time of fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ. For over 35 years Mrs. Austin was a member of the YWCA and enjoyed the daily water aerobics classes. She loved flowers and always had a vegetable garden. Survivors include sons, Jerry Metz (Pam), Ted Gerrey and adopted son, Tommy Beck of Winston-Salem and one daughter, Gail G. Mills (Ernie) of Durham; her grandchildren, Jerry Metz III (Christine), Jason Metz, Ernie Mills Jr. (Denise), and Bethany M. Stroup (Robert); her dearly loved great grandchildren, Trey Metz, Colton Caudill, BriAnn Metz and CheyAnn Metz, Caleb Stroup, Peyton Mills, Ernie Mills III “Trace” and Levi Mills; nieces, Tammy Phillips (Frank), Donna Ray (Randy) and Norma Phillips (Rodney) of Winston-Salem. She also had nieces and nephews in Rock Springs, WY; Columbus, OH; Slidell, LA and in Michigan. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Austin. one brother, Joseph Klobas Jr., four sisters, Geneva Mitchem, Margaret Moneyhun, Betty Vestal, and Hetty Cecil; and daughter-in-law, Diane Willard. Due to COVID her funeral will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. Her beloved pastor, Dr. Billy Norris will officiate the service. Family will greet friends immediately following the service. Grandsons and great grandsons will be honorary pallbearers, Jerry Metz III, Jason Metz, Ernie Mills Jr., Trey Metz, Caleb Stroup and Colton Caudill.
