Mr. Arthur Lee ""John"" Stowers, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he loved and faithfully served on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Mr. Stowers was born on May 29, 1934 to the late Lucille and George Stowers in Washington, DC. Mr. Stowers became a born again Christian on March 13, 1972, and was a longtime active member of Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and a member of Woodland's Ambassadors class. He retired from (Piedmont) U. S. Airways in 1981. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by his beloved sister Betty Richards and step-father George Duke. He is survived by his wife of 55 years of marriage Myra Stowers. Four sons: Arthur Lee (Claudia) Strowers, Jr. of Pilot Mtn., John F. (Susan) Stowers and Gary L. (Michele) Stowers both of Mocksville and William ""Bill"" (Pam) Stowers of Shoals. Nine Grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem by Pastor Tim Gammons. Burial will follow with Military Burial Rites at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday morning July 7th from 10:00 A.M. until time of the funeral service. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Brinkley Carter and Amy Plemmons for all the love and care they gave to John during his illness.
