Arthur Graves “AG” Stokes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 14, 2021. He was born in Forsyth County on July 16, 1932, only child of the late Porter Graves Stokes and Ollie Hilton Stokes. He attended Glenn High School and completed his education at Guilford College. He served in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of sergeant, and spent the next 33 years employed by RJR Archer.
A loving husband, he was married to Merlyn Sink Stokes for 58 years. They were the ultimate fishing companions and beach aficionados. When not enjoying the beach, they could be found reveling in the North Carolina mountains. Four children and nine grandchildren were their pride and joy. AG was preceded in death by his wife, Merlyn and his daughter, Paula Stokes Qualliotine. He is survived by daughters, Melanie White (Ron) and Laura Stokes, and son, Alexander Stokes (Melanie); grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor and Rex White; Carter and Anna Leigh Lassiter; Rachel Qualliotine and Ryan Qualliotine Razori (Julian); and Michael and Conner Stokes. His bright spirit, unwavering commitment, and droll wit will be dearly missed by all.
Due to current restrictions, the family will gather in a private graveside service. A special gathering for family, friends, and others whose lives AG touched will be held this summer in celebration of his life. The family would like to thank the caretakers of Home Loving Care and the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for their compassionate guidance. Special thanks also to Dr. Brasher for his lifelong care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of Arthur Stokes to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or trellissupport.com. Online condolences may be sent to www.hayworth-miller.com.
