Arthur Ray Martin

Mr. Arthur ""Ray"" Martin, age 77 of Rural Hall died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Ray was born in Forsyth County, April 3, 1931 to the late Clarence Milo and the late Lula Wooten Martin. He was a member of Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church, retired from Sara Lee Hosiery with 44 years of service, a member of the Salem Masonic Lodge 259, veteran of the US Army, and was a ham radio operator for many years. In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by two brothers Nelson and Ralph Martin and one sister Grace Banner. Surviving is his wife of 54 years; Betty D. Martin of the home. Two daughters; Vicki (Glenn) Hall of Lexington and Penny (Joel) Barrier of Raleigh. Four grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren, two sisters; Mable (Ned) Banner of Rural Hall and Frances (Elbert) Golightly of Morganton. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church by Rev. Nancy Johnson and Rev. Loy Kennedy with burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Saturday evening December 27, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church or to the Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 6012 Germanton Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105
