Dr. Arthur Raymond Jolie Jr., 65, a devoted husband and father, beloved son and, an inspiring brother passed away suddenly on March 30, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 31, 1945 in Hartford, CT to Arthur Raymond and Connie Saunders Jolie. He was an honors graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford and after studying at the University of Connecticut, he served in the US Air Force as a medical specialist from 1965 to 1969 at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alaska. He then went on to study medicine and graduated from the University of Colorado Medical School with a specialty in Internal Medicine. He elected to return to military service and joined the U.S. Army, serving for 16 years in several Army community hospitals in the US and Europe, including six years as Chief of Medicine. Retiring in 1995 with the rank of major, Art and his family settled in North Falmouth, MA where he was in private practice until 2007. Relocating to Clemmons, Dr. Jolie was employed by the Winston Salem VA Outpatient Clinic as a staff Internist. Throughout his life, Arthur's, passion was Jazz. An accomplished alto saxophone musician, he played in many bands, most recently a member of the Winston Salem Community Band. He was a member of the VFW Post 9010 and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Dr. Jolie was preceded in death by his father. Surviving is his beloved wife, Susan; three daughters, Kelsey, Whitney and Aimee (Brunell); a son, Adam; his mother and a brother Ric, both of Miami, Florida. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Tri Truong officiating. Burial will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
