Arthur Lee 'Bill' Googe, Jr.

Mr. Arthur Lee ""Bill"" Googe, Jr. was born February 19, 1919 to Arthur Lee Googe, Sr. and Alice Danner Googe, peacefully passed away April 19th, at 94 years of age. A native of Winston-Salem, Bill graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended The Citadel, before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. He married Vivian G. Hoots in 1943 and left soon after for England, where he flew a Lancaster bomber in missions over Europe. After World War II, Bill worked in sales for several companies, which led to a 30 year career as a manufacturer's representative of component parts to the furniture industry. During the early years of retirement, Bill and Vivian enjoyed babysitting for their grandchildren, traveling and participating in church activities. After Vivian's death, Bill wrote and published his autobiography ""That's The Way It Was"". Throughout his adult life, Bill was an active member of Ardmore Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 60 years. Bill will always be remembered for his quick wit and love of family and church. Left to cherish his memory are brother John W. Googe, son Stephen Googe (Susan) and daughter Ann G. Nusbaum (Alan). PaPa Bill will be remembered by his grandchildren; Jordan L. Googe, William L. Googe, Andrew S. Nusbaum, Lindsay N. Davenport (Rad) and Matthew R. Nusbaum and great granddaughter Ann Haper Davenport. In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister Alice L. Bauer and sister-in-law Doris S. Googe. A celebration of life service will be held at Ardmore Baptist Church on Thursday, April 25th at 11:15am, with Rev. Dr. Don Gordon and Rev. Ty Talton officiating. There will be visitation and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St. W-S, NC 27103 or a charity of choice.
