Arnold Giovanni Cortez

Mr. Arnold Giovanni Cortez, 69 of Winston-Salem, unexpectadly went home to our dear Lord surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2011. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Dugo Camalaniugan, Philippines. He graduated from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines. Throughout his career he was a radio personality and then moved onto insurance sales. He was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, The Knights of Columbus and BLD-Charlotte Prayer Group. He is survived by his loving wife, Corazon Cortez of Winston-Salem; his devoted sons Jeff Cortez (Wendy), John Cortez (Lori), James Cortez (Stephanie) and Jerome Cortez; daughters Joy Burgess (Kevin), Joanna Gann (Durry), Janet Mendoza (Denis), Jasmine Cortez, and Jessica Cortez. He was an adoring ""Lolo"" to his grandchildren Zach, Christian Burgess, Joshua, Jade Burgess, Helena, Bronwyn, Carson Gann, Taylor, Anna Marie, Ryan, Noah and Ethan Gann. He was a beloved brother to Lourdes, Remy, Jean, Corrie, Julie, Deo, Harold, Doctora Luz, Mary, and the Reverend Father Roger. Arnold will be missed dearly for his love and devotion to his family and friends. Arnold was a humble servant in all his ways, he showed his love by serving God, his family, and his friends. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He will be returned to his native Philippines for burial, laying him to rest next to his first born son which was his final wish. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff in the emergency department and Aircare Critical Care Transport at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the Davie County EMS for their quick response and care they provided.
