Mrs. Arlene O’Cain Keller, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Arlene was born in Dorchester County, SC (near Charleston) on April 5, 1936, to the late Ashton E. O’Cain and Alberta Stack O’Cain. She graduated from Orangeburg High School in South Carolina and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where she received her B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. Arlene taught at James Island High School in Charleston, Smith Junior High School and Coulwood Junior High School, both in Charlotte, NC. She met the love of her life and true “Charlestonian,” Leon “Lee” J. Keller, Jr. while teaching at James Island High School. He had just returned home from Clemson University where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. They married in 1962 and relocated to Charlotte, NC where their three children were born. Leon’s career would also take them to Winston-Salem, NC where Arlene finished out her teaching career at Lewisville Elementary School. She enjoyed teaching at Lewisville Elementary and always said it was a “delight!” Arlene was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2014. Arlene is survived by her three loving children, Kimberly K. Blevins (Jeff), Keith Ashton Keller, and Kevin Leon Keller; sister, Patsy O. Myers; and one niece and great nephew. A Witness to the Resurrection service will be held at 1pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Parkway Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Thom Burleson officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. An inurnment service will follow the reception in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church, 1000 Yorkshire Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Keller.
