Mrs. Ardena ""Duckie"" Whiteheart Mayberry, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1929 in Forsyth County to Cicero Harrison Whiteheart and Lois Hauser Whiteheart. More than anything, she loved God and her family with true sacrificial love. She will be remembered as a prayer warrior, an encourager with deep faith, and a free spirit. Her strength and independence were part of her attributes. She was attentive to God's word and a lifelong student of the Bible. She shared God's love in actions and words with everyone that she met. To know her was to love her. Mrs. Mayberry started a family tradition as a realtor in 1975 with Melvin Hunter Realty. Later, she worked alongside her husband, Calvin Mayberry ""Jack"" at Helms Parrish Realty. She attended Parkway Chapel where she served as a Sunday School teacher and an organist. Later, she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was active in life-groups, prayer groups, and Bible studies. Mrs. Mayberry was part of the ministry team ministering to the elderly at Healy Towers for over 30 years. She joyfully helped plan weekly activities, worship services, special event, and parties. She loved playing the piano for them to worship. She was a member of the Winston-Salem Music Club. She loved her home where she and Jack entertained many friends and hosted parties for any reason or no reason at all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn; siblings, Elnora Wagoner, John ""Dick"" Whitebeart, Grady Claude Whiteheart, Harrison Whiteheart, Robert Sidney Whiteheart, Matlyne Southern, and Elsie Davis. She is survived by her loving husband, in their 70th year of marriage, Calvin Milton ""Jack"" Mayberry; children, Donna Kay Poe, John David Mayberry and wife Julie; grandchildren, Carla ""Carrera"" Poe Tyson and husband, Jerry; Garrett David Poe and wife, Carrie Elizabeth Sawyer Poe; Wesley and Whitley Mayberry; two great grandchildren, Rosemary and Isla Poe; and a special little one she adored. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Center Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Corts officiating. Rev. Gary Byrum of Calvary Baptist Church will offer a reflection. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
