Anthony Lee Allen

Anthony (Tony) Lee Allen, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Anthony was born in Rockingham County on December 1, 1947, to the late Jasper Allen and Ocie Cox Allen.  He was the youngest of five children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Doug Allen, Jackie Allen, and Jerry Allen. Anthony is survived by his loving wife Kay Allen; daughter Alissa Meads and husband Paul; son Kent Allen and wife Amanda; grandchildren Zoe and Nate Meads; and sister Hilda Pharis.

Anthony enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 serving in Vietnam. On returning home, he met his wife Kay through mutual friends.  They married on September 9, 1972. He joined Duke Energy as a maintenance technician where he worked for 41 years prior to his retirement in 2013.

Anthony had a gift for music, playing the piano and guitar by ear.  He volunteered for the Red Cross assisting in disaster relief helping victims of natural disasters all over the country.  He also did volunteer work at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.  He was a member at Mt Carmel United Methodist Church and their Men’s Club.  Anthony was an avid Duke basketball fan, with great affinity for Coach K due to their shared history through army service.  He never missed an opportunity to disparage his UNC friends over their team’s rivalry. Anthony’s love for vintage cars led him to purchase his dream car, a Dodge Challenger which he enjoyed taking to car shows with friends.  He also had a passion for photography.  Birds, specifically bluebirds, vintage cars and his grandchildren were among his favorite subjects to photograph.  He got to spend a lot of his time during the last few years playing with his grandson Nate, and dancing with his granddaughter Zoe.  They will forever miss searching for their Papa monster.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Anthony's life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mary Miller officiating.
