Ann Marie Berlinger entered eternal rest at the age of 74. She died peacefully at Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Advance, NC on February 8, 2023, after a long battle with progressive dementia. Ann Marie was born on August 19, 1948, in Derby, CT, eldest of three children to the late Joseph Bruno and the late Anna Abate Bruno. In addition to her parents, Ann Marie was preceded in death by her late husband Robert “Bob” Frank Berlinger as well as her younger sister Patricia Ann Norton, father-in-law Frank Berlinger, and brother-in-law Nils Thornberg. Ann Marie and Bob were married for 45 years. Ann Marie loved spending time with her family on vacations. She enjoyed day trips to amusement parks as well as holiday cookouts and dinners with her large extended family. Ann Marie was a resident of Ansonia, CT for 67 years. Ann Marie was a lifelong communicant of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Ansonia, CT. Throughout her life she was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT, Burger King in Ansonia, CT, and Stop and Shop in Seymour, CT. Following Bob’s death in 2015, she moved to Winston-Salem, NC. Ann Marie was a resident of Creekside Terrace for 7 years where she enjoyed playing bingo, balloon volleyball, and going out on day trips. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren.
Ann Marie is survived by sons, Robert Joseph Berlinger (Megan) of Winston-Salem, NC, and James Frank Berlinger of Rockledge, FL. Ann Marie was a doting grandmother to Julia and Gabriella (Megan and Robert) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Nico and Luca (James) of Rockledge, FL. Ann Marie is also survived by her sister JoAnn Mott (Angelo Catone) of Ansonia, CT, mother-in-law Jacqueline Berlinger of Ansonia, CT, sister-in-law Linda Thornberg of Prospect, CT, sister-in-law Diane Hunsaker (Gary) of Davie, FL, brother-in-law David Berlinger of Oceanside, CA as well as several nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as “Auntie Ree”.
The family would especially like to thank Bryan and Regina at Creekside Terrace as well as the many dedicated and loving nurses at Bermuda Commons and Liberty HomeCare & Hospice Services. A celebration of life service for Ann Marie will be held at Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby, CT at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Details will be forthcoming.
