Annie Janet Whitaker Melton

Mrs. Annie ""Janet"" Whitaker Melton, 102, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009. She was born February 7, 1907 in Alleghany County to Isaac Whitaker Mary Lucy Poe Adams. Mrs. Melton was a lifelong member of Salem Baptist Church since 1939. She loved taking care of her violets and working in the yard with her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam W. Melton; a son, William ""Bill"" Henry Melton and a nephew, Bob Duncan. Surviving are a granddaughter, Sherry Wall (Neal) of East Bend; two great grandchildren, David Wall and Josh Wall; two great great grandchildren, Davis and Austin Wall; one brother, Will Adams of Galax, VA; three nieces, Mary Ann Weddle, Gail and Kathy and a very special cousin, Betty Jo Smitherman (Ronnie). The family would like to thank her caregiver, Paula Milner for her compassionate care for Mrs. Melton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 23, 2009 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Wilburn and Rev. David G. Pattisall officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
