Ann Badgett Israel

Ms. Ann Badgett Israel died peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2011, with loved ones by her side. Ann was born March 5, 1943, in Winston-Salem, NC, to James Hadley Badgett and Louise McGee Badgett. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC, and earned a B.A. and Masters Degree in Education at Wake Forest University. Ann taught English, drama, journalism and creative writing at South Stokes High School, and taught English at Forsyth Tech Community College. Ann was passionate about teaching and was devoted to her students, many of whom are dear friends to this day. She was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church for many years, and was blessed with a caring congregation and women's group from RJR High School that loved her and cared for her. Ann was a loyal friend to many, and her friends were a constant in her life. Ann always had a smile on her face, a great sense of humor, and an incomparable internal strength. She was an artist, deeply loved Jazz music, the Dallas Cowboys, WFU, and Christmas. Most of all in life, Ann loved her family: parents, sister, children, grandchildren, nephew, cousins and aunts/uncles. She was an amazing ""Nana"" to her grandchildren - time spent with them always brought her the greatest joy. She touched so many lives - she will forever remain in our hearts. Ann was preceded in death by her father, James Hadley Badgett, and sister, Becky Meshaw. She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Badgett of Winston-Salem; her daughters, Kimberly Ann Peatross of Winston-Salem, and Karen Raye Mankin and husband Jason of Fort Mill, SC; her Grandchildren, Henley Louise Peatross, Jack Wilson Peatross, James Hudson Mankin and Madelyn Grace Mankin, and nephew, Allen Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at Wait Chapel on the campus of Wake Forest University at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 with Rev. Dr. Susan E. Parker officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the Service in the Chapel's Lower Auditorium. The family is forever grateful to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Select Specialty Hospital.
