Mrs. Ann Lynn Thompson Combs, 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on August 5, 1933 to Anice Wimbish and Harbin Guy Thompson in Winston- Salem. Ann graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in the class of 1951. Following graduation she attended the University of Georgia, joining the Alpha Delta Pi Society. She also joined the first women's Air Force ROTC in 1951 at UGA. Ann played violin in the NC All State Symphony Orchestra as well as the All Southern Symphony Orchestra which was conducted by the great Leroy Anderson. She was instrumental in the start up of WKZL radio station in Winston-Salem where she worked as an Account Sales Executive. She was very active in organizing Pro Am Golf Tournaments and fund raising involving Hospice and Brenner's Children's Hospital. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Fielding Combs, Jr.. Surviving are her daughters, Deborah Henning Owens (Cpt. George Owen), and Dana Franklin (Doug Dixon); grandchildren, Drake, Tyler, Ashton, and Aubrey Franklin; Lindsey Owings, and Carrie Hampton; as well as great grandchildren, Caitlynn, Jaden, and Chance.. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Christ Church, 2252 Queen St., Winston-Salem, with The Reverend James R. Reed officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Davie County Humane Society, 291 Eaton Rd., Mocksville, NC 27028. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton is assisting the family.
