Anita Rae Groenfeldt McKeown

Anita Rae Groenfeldt McKeown, of Advance, died June 20, 2012. She was born in Bethlehem, PA to the Rev. Dr. John S. and Eva Williams Groenfeldt. Surviving are her husband, John McKeown of Advance; a son, Christopher Hegstrom of Kirkland, WA; stepsons, Matt of Pine, CO, Adam of New Orleans, LA, and Josh of Syracuse, NY; brothers, Thomas Groenfeldt of Sturgeon Bay, WI and David Groenfeldt of Santa Fe, NM; three granddaughters; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Andrews of Vermont. Anita graduated from Moravian Prep (Academy) in Bethlehem, PA, Moravian College in Bethlehem and earned the BSN from Columbia University, NYC. She worked as a nurse for 38 years including the areas of Indianapolis, IN, Antigua, and Bethlehem, PA. She retired from the Visiting Nurses of St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. Anita was a church organist throughout her life having played for many congregations and most notably for Edgeboro Moravian in Bethlehem, PA. Her life has left the world of her family and friends a more gentle and loving place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Hills Moravian Church in Bethlehem, PA, Clemmons Moravian Church, Clemmons, NC or Liberty Hospice at 1007 Lexington Avenue in Thomasville, NC.
