Anestis A. Hamberis

Mr. Anestis A. Hamberis, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at his residence. Mr. Hamberis was born on August 26, 1926 in Klafsion-Evretania, Greece to Anthanasios and Ekaterine Kokoutsis Hamberis. Anestis first came to the United States in 1950 to find work to support his family that remained in Greece. In 1959, he returned to his family in Greece in order to bring them back with him to the United States. Upon his return to the United States, Anestis went to work at the Carriage House Restaurant in Winston-Salem where he remained until 1970. He decided to open his own restaurant, calling it The Crystal Restaurant. The restaurant stayed open until 1977 when Anestis decided to retire full time from the food and beverage industry. Following his partial retirement, Anestis worked part-time in numerous restaurants, helping out where he was needed as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Kirists and Zoitsa Pistolis; and two brothers, Jerry and Dennis Hamberis. Anestis is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Fotini D. Hamberis of the home; one daughter, Katina Kroustalis and husband Nick of Advance, NC; one son, Tom Hamberis and wife Stephanie of Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren, Sophia, Stace, and Jackson Hamberis and Spyro (Georgia), Faye Kroustalis and husband Dave Curry, and Stan Kroustalis (Anitra); two great grandchildren, Nick and John Kroustalis. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Trisagion service at 7:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
