Mr. Andrew Jennings ""Jack"" Waring, 90, of Bermuda Run passed away Monday, September 13, 2009 at his home. Mr. Waring was born in Fall River, MA on September 27, 1918 to the late Dwight S. and Marion Jennings Waring. He was preceded in death by his older brother Dwight Jr. and a daughter, Andrea Quinn at age 30. He is survived by his wife, Penelope Gillespie Waring; a daughter, Roslyn, who lives with her husband Duane Norman in Fulton, MD; three granddaughters, Kathryn Gyekis of Delton, MI, Jill Ruppe of Ellicott City, MD and Diane Norman of Fulton, MD and a younger brother, Edward S. Waring of Alexandria VA. Jack, as he was called by his friends, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1941 and began his career working for the Firestone Rubber Company as an industrial engineer. He spent most of his career working for Hunt Manufacturing, first in Philadelphia, then at their Statesville, NC plant in management doing service in personnel and labor relations as the company acquired plants in numerous locations from Sarasota Fl. to Fresno, CA. Mr. Waring retired from Hunt in 1983 as Vice President and lived for the last 15 years with his wife Penny in Bermuda Village, Advance, NC. While living in Statesville from 1957 to 1993, he served the city in many capacities earning recognition by the local chamber of commerce as ""Man of the Year"" in 1968. Jack served the state as a member of the NC Employment Security Commission in Governors Holshouser's administration as a NC Electoral College Elector in the 1972 election year. Jack was Republican Ninth District Chairman the year James Martin was first elected to Congress. When he was elected governor, he appointed Mr. Waring to the Mitchell Community College board of trustees where he served for eight years. Mr. Waring, as a new resident of NC in 1957 was the first Republican elected as an Iredell County Commissioner in 38 years. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Bermuda Village Parlor with Rev. Sealy Cross officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
