Amy Kathryn Gatewood Parrish

Oak Ridge - Amy Kathryn Gatewood Parrish, 72, passed away Wednesday, July 04, 2012 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. She was born September 24, 1939 in Forsyth Co., the youngest of ten children, to the late Russell and Beulah Thomas Gatewood. Ms. Parrish was a devout believer of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and a member of Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church. She retired from Western Electric after many years of service. Amy befriended everyone she ever met and had a kind word for all. Despite her many health struggles, she never complained, maintaining a positive outlook and spirit of kindness. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, Douglas and Horace; five sisters, Ruth, Lela, Amelia 'Bill', Hazel and Orpha; and special nephew, Tommy. Surviving are her son, William ""Ray"" Parrish and wife, Karen of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Jackson Ray Parrish and Kathryn Lee-Ann ""Katie Lee"" Parrish; one sister, Irma Goldberg; seven special nieces and nephews, Rachel, Debbie, Paul, Tim, Jake, Jim, and Eric. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with the Rev. Scott Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday, July 6, 2012 at the funeral home.
