KING Mr. Alvin B. Sloop, 92, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Wilkes Co., NC on January 26, 1919 to the late William W. Sloop and Victoria Billings Sloop. Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He retired from Roadway as a truck driver with over 30 years of service and enjoyed bird watching. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Minnie Anderson Sloop, two sons, Alvin G. Sloop and Gary Sloop, two sisters and six brothers. Alvin is survived by a daughter, Jean Sloop Grubbs and husband Roland of Orlando, FL, a son, Douglas A. Sloop and wife Norma of Pinnacle, a daughter-in-law, Bessie Sloop of King, six grandchildren, Rebecca Sanfilippo (Paul) of Lexington, Jeffrey Grubbs (Linda) Huntsville, AL, Dale Grubbs and Clint Grubbs both of Orlando, FL, Kelly Sloop of Michigan and Penny Sinclair of Kernersville, five great-grandchildren, Brandi, Jonathan, Michael, C.J. and Diana, four great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Kathryn Nelson and Rosa Lee Brooks both of N. Wilkesboro and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with Rev. Gene Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank the staffs of Priddy Manor and Village Care for all of the love and support shown during Alvin's time of need.
