Winston-Salem-Mr. Alvin Ray Shutt, Sr., 74, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Rowan County to the late Leonard Wesley and Bertha Alvis Shutt. Mr. Shutt retired from Roadway with 37 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking recently making walking canes. Preceding him in death was his wife of 52 years, Frances Shutt; four brothers and three sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Shutt of Winston-Salem; son, Ray Shutt; three grandchildren, Georgia, Melinda, and Nina; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Shutt of Edenton, NC; two sisters, Viola Daw of Newport, NC and Betty Hess of Faith, NC; also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his special cat, ""150."" A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev. John Bishop officiating.
