Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven⦠Mr. Alvin Ray Scott, 83, of Winston-Salem went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkin County on April 10, 1929 to the late Floyd Escar (Eck) and Maude Flynn Scott. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1948. He was a long time member of Beck's Baptist Church, where he served as Secretary of the Sunday School for more than 30 years, and also as cemetery chairman and deacon. Ray liked to drive, which he did while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Sgt. (1951-1953) driving for the Transportation Dept. taking supplies to the front lines. He drove a truck for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company and a milk truck for Sealtest/Dairy Fresh retiring in 1994. Afterwards, he worked part time driving for Rae's Flower Shop and Bob Neil Pontiac. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherry Scott Tuttle; grandson, Russell ""Rusty"" Christopher Tuttle; and brother, Fred William Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hilda Ring Scott (married on September 25, 1953); daughter, Brenda Scott Plunkett and husband, Ricky of Rural Hall; son, Gary Wayne Scott, M.D. and wife, Susan Campbell Scott of Montgomery, Alabama; and son-in-law, R. Kent Tuttle of Pfafftown and special friend, Karen Shore. He was ""PaPa"" to six special grandchildren, Scott Plunkett (Lindsey), Trisha Tuttle, Rev. Nathan Tuttle (Tara), Gretchen Tuttle, Jessica Scott, and Ashlyn Scott. He is also survived by two brothers, M.F. Scott (Dorothy) of Michigan and Charles Scott (Nancy) of Yadkinville; and in-laws, Lonnie and Shirley Ring of Tobaccoville, Gordon and Dot Yates, Melvin and Jane Eudy, and Sylvia Patterson, all of Pfafftown; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Beck's Baptist Church, 5505 Beck's Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, with Rev. Bobby Vaughan and Rev. Nathan Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. As per Ray's request, in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Beck's Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5505 Beck's Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
