Alton Van Cox passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on May 10, 2014. Van was born on November 29, 1962 to Luther Alton Cox and Alvie Irene Stone Cox in Forsyth County. He graduated from East Forsyth High School. Van was employed as a sheet metal worker at Duggins Heating and Air. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. People of all sorts were drawn to him by his kind-hearted ways and natural charisma. Van was preceded in death by his son, Cody Cox; father, Luther Alton Cox; and sister, Monteese Webb. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Cox; daughter, Gena Cox; mother, Alvie Lawson; sister, Denise Waddell (Michael); stepchildren, Samantha Collins (Stephen), and Elisha Pruitt; grandchildren, Leland Collins, Tony Samuels, and Cierra Samuels. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with Rev. Todd Cartner and Mr. Mark Duggins officiating. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Forsyth County Humane Society, 61 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
