Alton Zelotese Canady, 85, loving and beloved husband and father, died peacefully at home Tuesday, December 4, 2012, with his children around him. Alton Canady was born September 24, 1927 in Dorchester County to the late Rev. Madison Lewis Canady and Lula Mae Gentry Canady. He served in World War II in the 88th Infantry Division in Italy and Yugoslavia, earning the victory World War II medal. He came home to Aiken, SC and began a career with McLean Trucking Company. He retired as Vice President of Transportation of McLean Trucking Company in 1983 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon. He was, also a member of the Southeastern Chapter of 88th Infantry ""Blue Devil"" Division Association. He was preceded in death in by his beloved wife of 49 years, Edna Phillips Canady in 1997; a brother O.T. Canady; and a sister Sarah Canady McGinnis. He is survived by his children, Marcia Elizabeth Canady and Mark Alton Canady; a sister Stella Canady Woodward; and other extended family. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM December 8, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Entombment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Blevins of Laguna Niguel, CA., Dale Blevins of Aiken, SC., Mike Mitchell of Aiken, SC, Russell Wood of Warrenville, SC, and Ronnie Vernon of Germanton, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church 1000 Yorkshire Rd Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or Charity of Donor's Choice.
