Alta Reed O'Ferrell

Mrs. Alta Reed O'Ferrell, 83, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Konnoak Drive, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice home. She was born September 22, 1925 in Forsyth County to William Evan and Carrie Flynn Reed. Mrs. O'Ferrell was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church for 64 years where she had formerly been the pianist and organist. She operated a day care in her home for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glenn Davis O'Ferrell, and three brothers. Surviving are two sons, Glenn D. ""Rick"" O'Ferrell, Jr. of Winston-Salem, and Steve O'Ferrell and wife Janet of Walkertown; a daughter, Kara Weatherman of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Betty Reed Harborth of California; four brothers, Ralph Reed of Elkin, David Reed of Clemmons, Raymond Reed of Winston-Salem, and Jack Reed of Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Mark Reed and the Rev. Doug Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Rosemont Baptist Church Food/Clothing Pantry, 415 W.
