Mr. Alphonso (Fonz) Cortez Parker, of Winston-Salem, NC, departed this life on December 31, 2021. He was born July 3, 1938, in Elkhorn, West Virginia, to the late Joseph and Erelle Parker.
Alphonso was a mild, calm, and fun person to be around. He was a member at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Saint Albans, West Virginia, as he was a very devoted man of God to his church and community giving his life to Christ Jesus many years ago. Alfonso loved going to church, loved his pastor, and his church family. He moved from St. Albans, West Virginia, to North Carolina to be with his niece; Gloria Smith, a devoted niece and caregiver, and great niece; Donzwella Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He loved his family and time spent with them.
Alphonso was preceded in death by his father; Joseph Parker, mother; Erelle Parker, and his sister; Marie (Sally) Smith, whom he loved dearly.
Surviving family members include his wife of 25 years; Lee Parker, loving niece and caretaker; Gloria Smith, great-niece; Donzwella Brown, cousins in which he grew up with; Lewis Harris of Clevland, Ohio, Martha Covington, and Mary Harston, eleven nieces and nephews; large host of great nieces and nephews; Beverly Gibson and Sandra Price, who helped him for many years in St. Albans, West Virginia, when his health failed before moving to North Carolina, and a friend and nephew, Jerry Parker of Richmond, Virginia.
He will be missed, but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Special thanks to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Michael Poke and church family for many cards, phone calls, and prayers, Praise Assembly Church, Reverend Johnny York and church family for much support and prayers, CAP DA Supporters, Pat’s Nursing Care, Future Visions Nursing Care, Trellis Supportive Care, and many loving family members and friends.
