Alpha Wanda Portis Shreve

Mrs. Alpha Wanda Portis Shreve, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Forsyth County on January 10, 1931 to the late William Jefferson Portis and Minnie Rakes Portis. Mrs. Shreve was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Alan Cole, a brother, Richard Portis and a sister, Lucille Kite. She is survived by her husband, Jack Dempsey Shreve, a daughter, Sandra S. Hayes (Jim) of Yadkinville, four sons, Ronnie D. Shreve (Pat) East Palestine, OH, Don W. Shreve (Alex) of Cape Carterett, Tim E. Shreve (Lisa) of Siloam and Chris Shreve of Siloam, six grandchildren, Joseph, Tricia, Corey, Travis, Hannah and Lauren, three sisters, Alma Hastings, Patsy Slaga and Nancy Hobson and a special niece, Regina Covington. Funeral services for Mrs. Shreve will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Bro. Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening February 19, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
