Alma Mae Loveland of Ararat, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 88.
Alma was born in Shickshinney, Pennsylvania in 1934 to James and Ethel Place and held deep roots in the Pennsylvanian traditions throughout her life. Alma spent her teenage years and most of her married life in South Jersey. Alma was a devoted mother with many talents. She was known for her gift of hospitality, always cooking and entertaining guests, even strangers. She baked elaborate cakes and catered special events. She was a master seamstress sewing cloths for her family, gowns and suits for her children’s special occasions and weddings and costumes for the Adams Dance Academy. Her colorful landscape paintings brought joy to many. She painted several church baptistries, old stoves, canvases, but mostly saw blades. One of her paintings is in a museum in Pennsylvania. She filled her house with love and music from the pump organ, piano and voice. She was extremely active in her local church. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed taking her family on long camping trips. Alma and her husband moved to North Carolina to be near family during their retired years. The last seven years were spent living with family in Ararat, Virginia where she was a member of Unity Church.
She was preceded by her husband, Walter David Loveland Sr., who passed away last Thanksgiving.
She is survived by her four children, Patricia and Robert Lohmeyer, Joanne Loveland, Walter Jr. and Renee Loveland and James and Kathleen Loveland, seven grandchildren plus their spouses, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
A private family service for Alma will be held at a later date.
