Alma Dowdy Pendergrass Jones

Mrs. Alma Agnes Dowdy Pendergrass Jones, 92, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Autumn Care of Nash. She was born November 15, 1916 in Brosley, Missouri to Isiac LeeRoy and Sarah Jane Foster Dowdy. Mrs. Jones was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Sanctuary Choir while health permitted. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James R. Pendergrass; her second husband, Garcia Lee Jones; one brother, B.J. Dowdy of St. Louis, MO; and one sister, Alta Bird of Florida. Surviving is one son, James R. ""Jim"" Pendergrass, Jr. of Rocky Mount; one daughter, Linda Lee Wheeler of California; two stepsons, Terry and Marshall Jones, both of Nashville; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one sister, JoAnn Short of Missouri. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18 at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Doug Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 17 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
