Mrs. Alma Brown Bradley, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born June 2, 1915 in Troutman to Fred Halton and Edna Cloaninger Brown. Mrs. Bradley graduated from Lenoir High School, Asheville Normal & Teachers College in 1936, and received her M.A. degree in Education from Appalachian in 1960. She retired from the Lenoir City Schools in 1980, after teaching elementary school, primarily first grade, in Lenoir and Caldwell County for 38 years. She was a resident of Creekside Terrace in Winston-Salem for the past 3 ½ years. In Lenoir she was active in the First Presbyterian Church; Lenoir Woman's Club; Lenoir Garden Club; Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority; and until her retirement, was an active member of the North Carolina Education Association. In Asheville, at the First Presbyterian Church she served as an Elder and was named an Honorary Life Member of the Presbyterian Women; active in the Lanier Club; Asheville Woman's Club; Ruth Davidson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; United Daughters of the Confederacy, Asheville Chapter #104; Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority; VFW Auxiliary; Biltmore Chapter No. 38 Order of the Eastern Star; and also a volunteer at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. Mrs. Bradley had a love for music and art and was always on the ""go."" She was preceded in death by her husband, James Frank Bradley; a son, James Frank Bradley, Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Belle Brown and Edith Brown Craddock. Surviving are her daughter, Catherine B. Patton and son-in-law, Michael T. Patton of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Elisabeth B. Patton of Clemmons; two nephews, Robert J. Craddock, Jr. and Charles Metcalf, both of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16th at First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir. Burial will follow in Bellvue Cemetery in Lenoir. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
