KERNERSVILLE-Alma Griffin Apple, 78, a very loving and giving mother, and grandmother passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born April 10, 1932 in Forsyth Co. to the late John and Gertie Grubbs Griffin. Mrs. Apple was a charter member of First Christian Church in Kernersville. She retired from Western Electric after 27 years of service. Alma loved gardening and growing her blueberry bushes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Blair Apple, Sr.; two sisters, Ruby Redman and Edna James; and one brother, Jim Griffin. Surviving are two sons, Mark Apple and wife Sharon Harrison Apple, and Max Blair Apple, Jr.; one grandson, Jamison ""Jamie"" Apple all of Kernersville; three sisters, Barbara Idol and Mary Ruth Idol both of Kernersville, and Bertha Westmoreland of Winston Salem; one brother, Harvey Griffin of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, May 14, 2010 at First Christian Church with Dr. Pete Kunkle and Rev. Wayne Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to either, First Christian Church, 1130 N. Main St., Kernersville, NC 27284 or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
