KERNERSVILLE- Mrs. Allene ""Pat"" Tally Sink, 83, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2009 at her home. She was born January 4, 1926 in Forsyth Co. to the late R.A. and Anna Katherine Devine Tally. Pat graduated from Mineral Springs High School; during her senior year she raised funds for WWII Bonds by singing ""Any Bonds Today."" She entered nursing school in 1943 at the Winston Salem City Hospital and graduated in 1946. She was employed by the City Hospital and later was employed at Martinsville General Hospital in Martinsville, VA. During the polio epidemic she volunteered for six months of service in Oklahoma. After returning to Winston Salem she was employed at Baptist Hospital and Forsyth Hospital. Pat later decided to enter into industrial nursing and was employed at Western Electric Co. in Winston Salem. After her employment with Western Electric she did private duty in homes for several years, helping anyone that needed medical attention. Pat was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church in Kernersville, the Walker Sunday School class, the adult choir and the ""Sounds of Joy"" bell choir. From 1971 to 1978 Pat and her husband were responsible for the youth program of the church. They organized a 50 member youth chorus, ""The New Way Singers"" which performed contemporary religious concerts throughout the state. Surviving are her husband, Grady Calvin Sink of the home; two sons, Keith Tally Sink, Kent Wayne Sink and wife Lisa; three granddaughters, Megan, Hayley, and Hannah Sink; four brothers, A.A. ""Buck"" Tally and wife Peggy of Walkertown, Dr. Richard D. Tally and wife Barbara of Summerfield, Gary O. Tally and wife Amy of Ennice, and Thomas B. Tally and friend Shirley Chisholm of Monroe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Pastor Patricia Lewis, Pastor Ellis Rouse, and Pastor Doug Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 pm prior to the service in the Brian Ray Holland Fellowship Hall. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care, members and friends at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church for all their care and support during this time; and many, many thanks to Cindy Leonard a loving, thoughtful and devoted healthcare provider. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Sink family.
